In 2005, as a result of the Euromillions lottery’s growing success , the possibility of creating a new European lottery began to take shape. But it would not be until 2011 when a definitive agreement was reached to launch the Eurojackpot.

The countries that initially signed the agreement were Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Slovenia, Finland and the Netherlands. Later Italy joined, and it was not until June 30^th, 2012 when Spain joined.

In February 2013, the participating countries that joined were Croatia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. In October 2014  Hungary and the Czech Republic joined,  Slovakia in 2015, and finally Poland in 2017, to complete the current 18 countries that participate in Eurojackpot.

With characteristics similar to Euromillions, this lottery differs mainly because it limits the maximum jackpot to 120 million euros, unlike EuroMillions, which is capped at 250 million.
