Oz Lotto is operated by Tatts Group, which is a subsidiary of the Australian Gambling Commission and distributes to all Australian states, except Western Australia, in which the operator of OZ Lotto is Lotterywest.
The OZ Lotto is one of the most important lotteries in Australia along with the PowerBall AU, since both give away the biggest prizes.
From the origin of this lottery, it was necessary to guess 6 of the 45 numbers proposed to obtain the first category prize, but as of October 18th, 2005, a modification was introduced varying the numbers needed to obtain the highest award from 6 to 7 , creating a new category.
OZ Lotto is a lottery that is easy to understand and play. The player must choose seven numbers from among 45 possible, corresponding to balls numbered from 1 to 45 inclusive.
The minimum age to buy lottery products is 18 in all states, except in Western Australia, where the age was reduced to 16.
At the time OZ Lotto draw, seven balls are extracted from the drum. These seven numbered balls will form the winning combination.
Subsequently, two more balls are extracted, the “complementary” balls, and do not affect the winning combination of the seven numbers, but are used to qualify for the prize category of 6, 5 and 3 hits.
While the at least one of the complementary balls must accompany the success of 6 numbers to create the second prize category. In the case of 5 hits for the fourth category of awards, it is mandatory to match at least one of the two complementary balls to obtain a 7th category prize.
The OZ Lotto has a guaranteed minimum jackpot of AUD $ 2,000,000 that rolls over an unlimited number of times. Having such a high guaranteed prize makes it a very interesting lottery to play.
OZ Lotto holds the largest jackpot of Australian lotteries to date. On 6th November 2012, four lucky ones shared a millionaire jackpot of AUD $ 111,972,151.04.
